President Shimon Peres on Monday visited the south in a showing of solidarity with residents being hit daily with rockets fired from Gaza.
The president attended a meeting with senior area IDF commanders and regional leaders, listening to the troubled community leaders compelled to endure non-stop attacks with minimal government response.
Mr. Peres told the forum that he met with the prime minister prior to heading south on Tuesday, suggesting to Mr. Olmert that perhaps it would be wise to permit the local communities assume responsibility for some of the construction dealing with security issues, permitting them to do it in a way that better meets their needs.

Is this the same guy, who in 2005, before the disengagement, when challenged with the argument that after the disengagement Sderot will be showered on with Kassam’s, he replied: “Kassam’s Shmassam’s?”
What hypocrisy, and political cruelty.
Hashem please help these poor Jews.
