Shas Party leader Minister Eli Yishai warned against limiting construction in the Yerushalayim area, responding to remarks from visiting US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that areas in the Jerusalem area over the Green Line will not remain under Israeli control in the final status agreement with the Palestinian Authority.

Yishai stated that construction must continue in Betar as it must in other areas of the capital. He stressed that Israel must build where necessary just as the French government must build in Paris and the American government in Washington.

He warned that setting limits on construction in the Yerushalayim area will result is requiring a building permit for Rechavia.
