Hamas Claims Responsibility for Fatal 2002 Attacks


Citing “security consideration,” Hamas on Shabbos announced the terror organization was responsible for two suicide bombing attacks that took place in 2002, one in Rishon L’Tzion and one in Tel Aviv.

On May 7, 2002, a suicide bomber entered the Sheffield Pool Hall in the Rishon L’Tzion commercial center and blew himself up. 15 people were murdered and over 50 wounded, about 16 seriously.  Hamas in the Saturday announcement stated that the suicide bomber was Jordanian citizen Nebil Moamar.

Hamas also boasted responsibility for an attack on a bus on Tel Aviv’s Allenby Street, also in 2002, in which 6 people were killed.

At 12:55pm on September 19, 2002, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device on a Dan Company No. 4 bus traveling on Tel Aviv’s Allenby Street. Six people were killed in the attack and 68 injured.

Solomon Honig, 79, from Tel Aviv
Rosanna Siso, 63, from Gan Yavne
Yossi Mamistbolov, 40, from Or Yehuda (bus driver)
Ofer Zinger, 29, from Paza’el
Yaffe Shem-Tov Hanoun, 49, from Tel Aviv
Yoni Jesner, 17, from Scotland (died on Sept. 20th)
