Migdal Ha’emek resident Assaf Biton has nothing but words of praise for border policeman Dudi Ochaiyon, who on Shabbos was on patrol in the area of a Haifa beach when he saw a hysterical crowd signaling for assistance.
It did not take long for the policeman to realize someone was drowning and time was of the essence. He placed his weapon in the hands of a driver and ran into the choppy waters, in his uniform, and swam out to Biton, 24, pulling him into shore. He began resuscitation efforts and after a few short minutes, Biton responded.
For border policeman Ochaiyon, a swimmer, he does not view his actions as heroic, explaining he did what had to be done. Biton was released from hospital later in the day.
Elsewhere, a 53-year-old Carmel resident downed on Shabbos after he went swimming in an unauthorized beach.
