In what is becoming somewhat of a recurring accident, a 57-year-old man received a full vial of Covid-19 vaccine instead of just one dose. The incident, which is the third of its kind in a month in Israel, occurred on Tuesday at one of the vaccination clinics in Jerusalem.
A full vial of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine includes six doses of the vaccine.
After the medical personnel at the clinic realized the error the man was taken by ambulance to Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital and put under observation for a number of hours. He was later released home, feeling well and suffering no adverse side-effects.
Professor Koby Assaf, who heads the Emergency Medicine Department in Ein Kerem said: “The man was brought to us after he was injected with a full vial of the vaccine, instead of the regular dose. This means he received between 5-6 doses of the vaccine in one shot, as his second vaccination. The urgency is understandable, but the man did not suffer from any side effects, and after a number of tests was sent home. We wish him well and hope that he continues to feel good.”
Five days ago, a similar situation took place, where a 67-year-old woman was also given a full vial of the vaccine and was sent to Shaare Zedek Hospital and kept under observation for two days.
Last month, a medical professional who was vaccinated in Tel Aviv for his first dose was also given a full vial by mistake.
