Shul in Modi’in Illit Goes Up In Flames

Firefighters from the Binyamin Regional Station worked tirelessly to put out a blaze that torched the Ma’agalei Tzedek Shul on Sha’arei Teshuvah Street in Modi’in Illit on Tuesday, causing severe damage to the building. It took them several hours to gain control of the fire and prevent its spreading to neighboring buildings.

The Torahs were rescued from the blaze without being damaged, and firefighters searched to ascertain whether anyone had been trapped inside or injured during the fire that caused severe damage to the structure of the shul.

Deputy Tafser Roni Yakov, who is the commander of the Matityahu station said: “We responded to the fire of a shul on Sah’arei Teshuvah Street in Modi’in Illit. When we arrived we saw that the shul is comprised of two buildings that were burning and are black smoke was coming out of them. Firefighters entered the buildings in order to cool them down and search for trapped people. At the same time, other firefighters made every effort to safeguard the Sifrei Torah.”

Volunteers from United Hatzalah and ambulance teams from Magen David Adom also responded to the emergency, but miraculously, there were no injuries reported in the fire.
