Rebbetzin Shoshan Raizel Bayla Alter, the wife of the Gerrer Rebbe, tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend. Rebbetzin Alter, who is 80-years-old, was suffering from a nagging cough over the past few days and took a Coronavirus test which came back positive.
The Rebbe also got tested for the virus, and his test came back negative. The results ended up pushing off a high-end dinner that was scheduled to take place on Sunday night at the residence of the Admor with 50 community leaders and influential philanthropists.
A source within the Gerrer community in Yerushalayim told Kikar HaShabbat that the Rebbetzin is in good condition and is currently at home under care and supervision and there is currently no need for medical intervention. He also said that it is unclear how or where she became infected.
People are being asked to daven for the refuah of Shoshana Raizel Bayla Bat Mindel Kayla.
Following the results, it was announced on Sunday that the Rebbe will be taking the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer on Sunday evening.
With the Rebbe taking the vaccine, the entire Gerrer community is expected to follow suit. The Rebbe previously instructed his followers to get the vaccine but stipulated that there was no urgency to rush.
The Rebbe will be the first major Chassidic figure to take the vaccine. According to Bchadrei Charedim, over the next few days, other Admorim are expected to take the vaccine as well.
