On Sunday evening, Israel’s coronavirus cabinet approved the re-opening of schools for 1st through 4th graders on Sunday, November 1. The plan calls for 1st and 2nd grades to be split into two groups that will alternate days, with each group attending school for three days a week.

Students in 3rd and 4th grades will be split up into capsules and attend school for five days a week versus the normal six days a week of school in Israel.

Students in 5th grade and above will continue with remote classroom learning.

During the five-hour-meeting, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu asked that fines for those who violate the regulations set forth by the Health Ministry be dramatically increased.

“I believe that we need to increase the fines and to take determined action against anyone who violates the regulations, whether it is with weddings, educational institutions, or various events at any other locations where mass infections can be caused,” Netanyahu said.
