MK Eliyahu Chassid received official permission that he may resign from the Knesset. Chassid intends to resign in order to return the synchronicity between Degel Hatorah and Agudah Yisroel in the UTJ party, which was adversely affected by the resignation of former Minister Litzman from the government and his returning to the Knesset as an MK.
On Sunday evening, Chassid requested to formally resign his seat from the Knesset and received permission to do so. “This is to allow Bruchi to become a Knesset member and keep the balance between Agudah and Degel and prevent unnecessary conflicts and arguments, even though in the agreement between the parties, should a situation such as this arise, the agreement was to hold a rotation.”
When Llitzman resigned from the Government and retook his seat as an MK, it pushed MK Eliyahu Bruchi from Degel HaTorah, out of the Knesset, and left an imbalance in the power structure between Agudas Yisroel, who now had two extra seats more than Degel Hatorah.
Bruchi is expected to return to the Knesset and sit as an MK instead of Deputy Minister Uri Maklev. It is still unclear what will happen to the position of Construction and Housing Minister now that Litzman has left. Before Sukkos, it was reported that Litzman requested to return as a deputy minister.
