The Ministerial Committee on the coronavirus on Thursday evening decided on a two-week full lockdown on the entire country that will begin before Rosh Hashanah next week. The lockdown is expected to start Tuesday, September 15. Eight cabinet members supported Netanyahu’s proposal and four objected to it.
The full details of the lockdown – such as how long it will last – are yet to be released. The full cabinet is to convene Sunday to approve the measures.
Israel’s Health Ministry issued an update to the daily number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Israel, and for the first time, more than 4,000 people tested positive for the virus in one day. The total thus far, for Thursday is 4,013 new cases, and the day isn’t over yet. The total number of tests conducted were 44,964 over the course of the day.
Additionally, the number of people who passed away due to the disease also rose dramatically today to 1,075, up 22 from yesterday – also a new daily record. There are 488 cases of people in serious condition with the virus among them are 143 who are connected to ventilators.
Netanyahu issued a statement saying that “although the number of severe cases is steady, hospital staff have warned that it can rise drastically and quickly, and if it does, there won’t be enough resources to treat people, and more will die.”
It is for this reason that Corona cabinet met and was presented with a very bleak picture by Corona Commissioner Ronni Gamzu and representatives from Israel’s hospitals who requested a full lockdown for the Yomim Tovim. Netanyahu said that “such a decision needs to be made thoughtfully and not rashly and therefore it takes time to weigh options and discuss them. But at the same time, the decision needs to be made with enough time in advance to allow people to prepare for the Holidays.”
A raucous discussion ensued among the cabinet members, specifically between the Prime Minister and Housing Minister Yaakov Litzman over the proposed lockdown during the holidays. Due to the fierce objections by other ministers in addition to Litzman and Professor Gamzu being called away, the discussion ended without a resolution. The news later emerged that a decision had in fact been made.
“You will destroy the holidays” Llitzman accused Netanyahu. “I am not killing the holidays, I am acting due to the serious statistics regarding the skyrocketing death rate and the infection rate,” the Prime Minister responded. “As of now we aren’t changing our path. We established a partial lockdown under the traffic light plan until Tuesday, and until then nothing is changing.”
According to reports, Netanyahu is demanding from the cabinet that the country go under full lockdown as of Tuesday September 15th, and from there it will lighten up to a partial lockdown and then back to the traffic light plan at a later date.

Here’s the key line: “There are 488 cases of people in serious condition with the virus among them are 143 who are connected to ventilators.”
No epidemic!
Only 185 people under 70 have died.
No epidemic! There are 9 million people in Israel.
The Israeli statistics indicate there have never been skyrocketing deaths. The deaths from Covid19 are a tiny blip on a chart. The handful of children who get sick is less serious than the regular flu. The lockdown for yuntuf suggests the zionists are closing in on their dream of trying to crush Yiddishkeit by banning davening and learning Torah.
“it could dramatically rise at any minute”
Except that in NO country in the world has it circulated for this long and “dramatically” increased. Models need to reflect reality, not the other way around!
With PCR tests we are getting positives of people who were positive 3-4 months ago and can’t pass it on.
Lockdowns solve nothing. They create death and mental health breakdowns. And when you test at a higher rate per capita of anywhere in the world, of course you get more positives. Test 44,000 people and get 4000 positives, shkoyach! Two weeks ago, test 20,000 and get 1800 positives. 80-90% are not “battling the disease,” their test came back positive, THAT’S IT.
Chilonim are blaming haredim, but the haredim all voted AGAINST the lockdown.
B”H
May Hashem blow the Great Shofar now.
It’s a discrimination against the religious they test more per day to get more positive results it’s the same small percentage.
“dream of trying to crush Yiddishkeit by banning davening and learning Torah”
I see nothing here that bans either. In fact, if there is a real lockdown that closes businesses, there will be more time for prayer and Torah learning.
So long as the Department of Education shall mandate an extremely fast & unplanned reopening like they did in Iyyor after lock-down on Pessach, the entire lock-down is nothing more than a totally useless witch-hunt.
I wonder if they are treating the patients EARLY as suggested by so many physicians.
People need to be taking ZINC, Vitamin D (5000iu) and Vitamin C every day
If someone has symptoms they should put them on Hydroxychloroquine + Azithromycin + Zinc
“It can change drastically any minute,” they say. Well, yes, it can. But at the same time as we’ve seen elsewhere, usually it doesn’t.
I hope the Israeli government is not being as stupid as Democrats in the United States are by not allowing patients to receive the hydroxychloroquine, zinc, z-pack regimen. Give them whatever you can and if it works, great!
Litzman was a fool when he was “health minister” and is an even greater fool now that he has the housing ministry portfolio. As health minister, he allowed the national health system to deteriorate. All of EY’s public health leadership tried to get Netanyahu to dismiss him from any further involvement in health matters.. At the beginning of the Pandemic, issued a Trumkopf-like prediction that Covid would disappear by Pesach because Moishiach was coming. After Pesach, he and his wife tested positive for the virus but violated distancing rules and was seen davening with members of his chassidus when such minyanim were prohibited. His only response to any government public health proposal is to mindlessly scream “gevalt” and accuse everyone of attacking the Chareidim and seeking to “destroy yiddeshkeit and torah learning”. By now, I would have thought the Ger and Agudas Yisroel would have found someone with half a brain to represent them but this clown seems to survive to scream gevalt for another day.
@147 – Exactly. They had three months to plan and instead focused on Bibi’s trial. Everyone knew the numbers would skyrocket the moment the school year started.
@Akuperma – They’s not trying to “ban davening and learning Torah”. Believe it or not, there actually is some semblance of a public health crisis. Also, if everything is shut down, Charedim will have *plenty* of time to daven and learn.
@aymdock – Chilonim (other than the loonies in North Tel Aviv) are not blaming Charedim. They blame Bibi.
