Five cars of a freight train traveling during the predawn hours of Tuesday 20 Tishrei 5774 derailed between Beersheva and Kiryat Gat. As a result of the derailment, Environmental Affairs Ministry inspectors were dispatched amid reports of a hazardous substance leak. Baruch Hashem it appears that situation was contained.

As a result of the derailment, there will not be train service during the next five days at least while repairs take place. Shuttle bus service will be made available to commuters.
