   1) Be better than the Palestinians who celebrated 9/11. As Jews, we should hold ourselves to a higher standard.

   2) The Gemara says not to cheer when the wicked are killed. Certainly not when innocent civilians are killed. The people caught in this explosion in Beirut are regular citizens of Lebanon, just because Hezbollah runs rampant in Lebanon doesn’t mean the regular people living in that city are co-conspirators.

    Actually there was video taken that day of Arabs in Jerusalem celebrating. Trump, of course, lied and claimed that they were in New Jersey. But in fact they were East Jerusalem Arabs, who identify as Palestinians. (Why Jews would want them to be annexed to Israel is beyond me.)

    That part of Lebanon is West Beirut, which is Sunni Muslim, NOT Hezbollah which is Shiite.

    What are you talking about? The gemara explicitly REJECTS that view and says the exact opposite. The gemara attributes your opinion to HAMAN HARASHA, and says that Mordechai Hatzadik held the opposite, that באבוד רשעים רינה, and that הוא אינו שש אבל אחרים משיש.

    There is a no-longer-extant medrash that says the reason we don’t say Hallel on Shvi’i shel Pesach is because of the dead Egyptians, but (a) that medrash contradicts the gemara and is therefore NOT accepted lehalacha; and (b) even that medrash applies only to Hallel and not to any other kind of celebration, all of which are appropriate even according to that medrash (Shu”s Chavos Ya’ir).

21. mdd1, there is no great increase in deaths in Florida. The increase in CASES is due to increased testing, and young people testing positive but not getting sick.

    The convention is being scaled down not because of any real danger but because of the increased restrictions that would apply, and because a lot of delegates would feel uncomfortable — some because they’re older or medically vulnerable, and some because they’d have to quarantine when they got home.

24. LAmother, no that is NOT the reason there is no mitzvah to say Hallel on Shvi’i Shel Pesach. That was found in an obscure medrash that is no longer extant, but it contradicts our gemara so we do not accept it lehalacha. But even according to that medrash only Hallel is not appropriate; every other form of celebration IS.
