Finance Minister Roni Bar-On arrived at the Har Nof home of Rav Ovadia Yosef Shlita shortly after 22:00 on Monday night in an effort to persuade the Rav not to make the monthly child allowance issue a deal breaker.
Rav Ovadia has instructed Shas leader Eli Yishai to leave the coalition if the treasury does not agree to increase the monthly child allowance in accordance to Shas’ demands.
Bar-On presented the government’s plan for combating poverty, including increased monthly payments for the elderly, an increased minimum wage and other steps taken over the past two years. Rav Ovadia acknowledged the steps taken by the government as well as their importance, but nevertheless they do not replace the monthly child payments which result in direct assistance to families towards meeting a child’s needs.
Rav Ovadia also took advantage of the meeting to console Bar-On on the recent petira of his mother.
Following the meeting, the Rav instructed party ministers Yishai and Ariel Atias to continue stressing the need for the government to increase the monthly child allowance payments so the importance of the issue at hand is understood by all.
During a meeting between Bar-On and Shas ministers earlier in the day, the sides did not make progress, adjourning in deadlock, prompting the unusually late-night meeting with Rav Yosef. Bar-On told the ministers prior to meeting with Rav Ovadia that increasing monthly allowance payments is not a solution towards eliminating the cycle of poverty and he opposes such a move – stating he will not have any part of such a policy.

so shas will threaten to leave the coalition if they don’t get MONEY?
is that all this “religious” party is about. apparantly so, b/c that’s all any of the religious parties care about.
To leave the government by Gaza, or for negotiating Jerusale, that they won’t do, because it might cut into their precious funding. Instead, they will “abstain” (which is the same thing as voting yes), stay in the coalition, and keep on getting (increased) funding
this is why the “religious” political parties disgust me. they wont do anything for the state unless it is firmly in their own interests. religious people should be above that
This story has been told before,
We will leave the coalition NOW, IF……..
There will be a time when SHAS MK’s and its leadership will not be taken seriously, sort of the like the boy who yelled ‘Wolf’ too many times.
Chacham Ovadia is a wize man! Besides beeing one of the bigest geonim of our times!
Once again we have to be subjected to peoples nasty and lashon hara ridden comments about R Ovadia Yosef shlita.
I just wonder 2 things : first, why does YW posts these comments and facilitate lashon hara? Surely the editors must know that they are aiding and allowing people to do issurim. and secondly and more importantly, how anyone can have the nerve to openly on the internet for all to see question the ravs decision making (whether he is right or wrong has no bearing) truly amazes me. I would pay BIG $$$ to see one of you YOYOs go and tell the rav to his face your opinion. He is without question one of the gedolei hador and can no doubt use mystical powers with the knowledge that he has. I wouldnt want to mess around there…but apparently some people feel that the 1.5 hrs that they learned gives them rights to argue with the gedolim.
TO THE EDITOR, HOW DO YOU ALLOW AND POST #1 ???
# 4 I couldn’t say it any better. Rav O. Yosef Is a GODOL HADOR.
ok
how about, instead of attacking me, tell me if (and how) I’m wrong.
o, and by big $$$$ how much are you talking?
#6
Obviously you just arent with it. It Could be that im wrong, and youre right. Its mutar to go and shamble one of the gedolei hador. Go tell your opinion to the rabbi himself. Tell the Rav that you think hes selling out for $ , and that they dont care about Ir Hakodesh. Believe me you wont be happy with the outcome.
If you are smart though, take your post and go ask your own personal Rav what you did wrong. I stood up for the ravs honor which is all I am halachically bound to do. I have neither the time nor will to argue with someone who has the gaava to think he has the right to shamble our precious gedolim.
