The government decided on Sunday to declare two neighborhoods in the Muslim towns of Arara and Rahat, and Muslim neighborhood in Jaffa as restricted areas due to the high rate of Covid-19 infected people in those neighborhoods. In those neighborhoods, gatherings of more than 10 people will not be allowed and schools will be closed. The Ajami neighborhood in Jaffa will be put under partial lockdown.
Additionally, the government will be deciding whether or not to put extra regulations on the neighborhood of Tzahalon in northern Jaffa in the near future.
Thee Prime Minister made the decisions together with the ministers who are participating in what is being termed as “The Corona Cabinet” that includes the ministers of Health, Interior, Internal Security, Treasury, and Defense.
The decisions come in light of the recent rise in Covid-19 cases in Israel. Over the past day, 288 people were diagnosed with the disease. Since the beginning of June, 2,566 people have been diagnosed with the virus. On average that is 160 people per day being diagnosed with the disease.
In Rahat alone, 120 people were diagnosed with the disease in the month of June.
