Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that shuls and other houses of worship will allowed to reopen on Wednesday with health restrictions in place.

Netanyahu tweeted:

“After consulting with Minister of Health Edelstein, Interior Minister Deri and Head of the National Security Council Meir Ben-Shabbat, I decided to allow the opening of shuls starting tomorrow according to the following outline:

– Up to 50 participants in the space.
– A distance of 2 meters between worshipers.
– Coronavirus trustee appointment (to make sure the rules are not broken).
– Wearing of masks.
– Adherence to hygiene rules.

Take care of your health!”

  1. Is there any mechanism to ensure that the health and safety requirements are met and is anyone going to police them?

  2. Just curious, with the opening of shuls, Boruch Hashem, both in Israel and New York area, as limited as they will be, what are they doing for the bathrooms? How do you keep germs away from each other? How can that possibly be safe?

  3. ב”ה in time for the huge יום-טוב of יום-ירושלים when we commemorate our amazing return to such an incredible מקום-קדוש, what better way to celebrate than to finally be able to repopulate our מקדש-מעט on this יום-ירושלים .

  4. I think there is a significant typo in this story. You write, “Up to 50 participants in the space”. Other news sources state shuls may open with *50%* of the usual number of mispallelim.

  5. I will wait another 2 weeks before going to daven INSIDE a shul, since most people in Jerusalem don’t keep windows open wide during the summer hence causing the spread of the virus (in closed spaces)….
