Mrs. Nadia Cohen on Wednesday confirmed reports that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert did contact her, telling her that Israel has not forgotten her husband and never will.
Mrs. Cohen, whose husband Eli was hanged by the Syrian 43 years ago after determining he was an Israeli spy, has been trying since to have his remains brought to Israel for burial. Now, with renewed talks with the Syrians, Nadia stated the issue of bringing Eli’s remains home should be ahead of any talks, since enough time has passed and “Eli has been punished enough” she added.
Cohen was publicly hanged in Syria on May 18, 1965. To date, Syria has refused to release his remains to Israel.
