K’vasim Junction Checkpoint Gone

In line with government concessions to the Palestinian Authority, the IDF has removed the checkpoint at K’vasim Junction in the Southern Chevron Hills area, permitting Arab motorists’ free travel on the road, which Jewish leaders in the area warn will result in renewed terror attacks at that location.

The checkpoint was removed motzei Shabbos, in no small part due to increasing political pressure on Israel from the United States and The Quartet.

Opposition MK (National Union) Prof. Aryeh Eldad sent a letter to Defense Minister Ehud Barak stating the removal of the checkpoint places area Jewish residents in perilous danger.

In the past, there have been a number of fatal and non-fatal shooting attacks at the junction, prompting the IDF presence in the area.
