With half of the city of Haifa flooded, and torrential rains continuing, providing rescue services in the northern metropolis has been challenging to say the least. All emergency service organizations, the Police, the Fire Department, Magen David Adom, United Hatzalah, Zaka, and the Homefront Command are on full alert and have their staff and volunteers responding to emergency calls utilizing any vehicle that can traverse the flooding whenever possible.
In one incident on Wednesday, Firefighters were called to Esther Hamalka Street in the city in order to assist an ambulance in reaching a patient who was suffering a medical emergency.
The ambulance had arrived at the beginning of the street only to find that the street had become impassable due to flooding, preventing the paramedics inside from treating the patient in need of attention at the end of the road.
According to a statement made by Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Yuval Barak, Firefighters brought their truck and picked up the paramedic from the back of the ambulance and drove him the rest of the way through the flooded street so that he was able to reach the patient. The patient was in serious condition ad the paramedic treated him for his condition.
Following the delivery of the paramedic, an MDA 4×4 jeep arrived at the scene and transported the patient to the waiting ambulance which then took him to Rambam hospital. Firefighters remained at the scene in order to make sure that no other rescue efforts were needed.
