Mayor Porush’s Selection for Elad City Manager Disqualified

The Interior Ministry has disqualified Elad Mayor Yisrael Porush’s selection for the post of City Manager, Shai Natan, after the Movement for Quality Government petitioned against the appointment a month ago.

The Movement for Quality Government (MQG) petitioned Interior Minister Aryeh Deri to disqualify the appointment as 18 months has not passed since Shai Natan served as a city councilman as required by law.

In addition, the MQG points out that Natan does not meet all the qualifications to be eligible for the post. It is pointed out that the Elad City Council has already given its approval for Natan’s appointment.

The MQG points out that Natan ended his tenure as a councilman in October 2019, and therefore, he must wait 18 months from that date, a hiatus period required by law before he can be hired to a paid city post. Hence, the MQG feels he is not presently eligible for the post and there is no justification to seek to make a ‘special appointment’ in this case.

Elad City Hall must now respond to the Interior Ministry regarding its decision to disqualify the appointment.
