The former head of the Israel-allied Southern Lebanese Army, General Antoine Lahad, who resides in Europe, released a statement warning Western nations and Israel in particular, stating the events unfolding in Lebanon are a clear sign of Iran’s ongoing efforts to spread its influence to the entire region.

Lahad also pointed out the timing is not coincidental, as world leaders converge on Israel to take part in President Peres’ 60th anniversary event, stating Hizbullah and Iran are opting to flex their political muscle in front of the international community.

Lahad’s statements concur with the assessment by Israel’s intelligence community, well-aware that if the current Lebanese government falls to Hizbullah control, it will create a new unfavorable reality along Israel’s northern border.
