Ethiopian Stabbing Suspect Remanded for Additional Four Days To Allow Investigation To Procede

The Jerusalem Magisterial Court extended the remand of the Ethiopian Yeshiva Student who is suspected of stabbing a Jerusalemite that was standing next to him at a bus stop in Givat Shaul, by four days.

According to the representative of the district attorney “The investigators are looking into the seriousness of this case and are treating it like an attempted murder case as well as possibly attributing other crimes to the action.”

Witnesses who were interviewed by the police say that the yeshiva bochur stabbed the man who was standing near him and told onlookers that the reason he stabbed the man was that the man had angered him with his actions.

With regards to the attempted stabbing of an officer that took place shortly thereafter, the yeshiva bochur said that he was afraid that the police officer would stop him. He admitted that he threatened an eleven-year-old girl with his knife.

The defendant’s lawyer stated that the yeshiva bochur’s frame of mind is not constant and eve with medical treatment it changes drastically. Therefore, it is important that the investigation be concluded in a short time span.

Judge Eleazar Bialin determined that: “In light of the defendant’s medical situation, a doctor in the detention center is asked to check him thoroughly and shortly. In addition, in light of the medical documents shown to the court that illustrate that the defendant may be in Psychotic state, we ask that the defendant be brought by prison services for a psychiatric examination.”

The parents of the defendant told Kika HaShabbat news service that they have no idea why their son did what he allegedly did.
