Syria Prevented Arab League Military Force in Lebanon

The Arab League in its emergency session on Sunday was in favor of sending a military force to Lebanon in response to Hizbullah’s attempted coup.

Syrian intervention prevented such a plan from being actualized, after Syria stated when Israel invaded Lebanon, the Arab League did not send a military force. That being the case, Syria questioned how such a force could be sent now when Hizbullah is involved, preventing the decision to deploy a force in Lebanon.

In the meantime, Hizbullah’s gain in Lebanon is a plus for Syria and Iran, both interested in toppling the current pro-Western government and Druze leader Walid Jumblatt, replacing them with radical Islamic fundamentalists.
