Jason Greenblatt, the outgoing US special envoy for Middle East peace, met with Saudi Arabian blogger and Twitter influencer Mohammed Saud on a train in Riyadh on Tuesday morning.
Greenblatt was in the region attending the Sir Bani Yas Forum, a conference of “senior decision-makers from across the Middle East and around the world” in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over the weekend. The conference was organized by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
Saud wrote on his Twitter page in Hebrew: “Today I met with the man of peace, the dear Mr. Jason Greenblatt, a wonderful man who wants and tries to bring peace. I hope that there will be peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia and Saudi Arabians will come to Israel and Israelis will come to Saudi Arabia. I have tears in my eyes. Elokim should bless Israel and America and Saudia Arabia.”
“I’ve been Twitter “friends” with Mohammed Saud for a while,” Greenblatt wrote on his Twitter page. “[We] now met in person in Riyadh. Continuing the conversation about Israel/Palestinians/the region and Jews, Muslims, Christians, Arabs, and lots more. Help us build the momentum!”
Greenblatt announced that he was leaving his post at the beginning of September to return to the private sector. Avi Berkowitz, 30, an Orthodox Jew who serves as White House adviser Jared Kushner’s assistant, is expected to take over most of Greenblatt’s responsibilities.
