President Shimon Peres on Sunday stated that Israel has defeated entire armies in the past, and he remains confident that Hamas, the “threat from Gaza”, will be eliminated as well.

Mr. Peres was speaking in his official residence to Israelis born on Independence Day, 5 Iyar, telling them that while the solution will not be immediate; there will be a time in the future when there will not be threats of rocket attacks.

Regarding ongoing Israeli efforts to advance peace talks with the Palestinian Authority, Mr. Peres stated the ongoing terrorism only delays the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The president stated that ultimately, terrorists harm their cause, pointing to the escalated warfare in Lebanon as the latest example.
