Netanyahu Appoints Those Loyal to Him, Excluding the Chareidim

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu seems to be taking advantage of these days and the transient government state to appoint persons loyal to him to posts, but the chareidim point out they are being ignored. They point out that the Yemina list with a total of seven seats has received three cabinet posts; Transportation Minister Betzalel Smotrich, Education Minister Rabbi Rafi Peretz and most recently, Defense Minister Naftali Bennett. They explain that the Shas and Yahadut Hatorah parties have a combined 16 seats and have received nothing.

It is added that this is also despite the fact they announced and signed a loyalty document to remain with Netanyahu and his right-wing bloc but are wondering why they are not benefiting from this time period and the transition government status as is the right-wing dati leumi party.

The chareidi parties, which are by and large socialist in their philosophy, could possibly find a comfortable home with Benny Gantz and his Blue & White party, and possibly provide sufficient support to bring him to the leadership of the country. For as long as they reach agreement regarding a religious status-quo, they could easily team with Gantz, as the chareidim historical were part of Labor party-led coalitions.

However, they are being loyal to the document, at least for now, continue to sit by and watch as others in the right-wing bloc are advancing while they maintain an observer status.

  1. Absolute rubbish – Haredim can never join Blue and white, which includes the anti-religious Lapid, and which has no chance at forming the coalition without Lieberman, who is also anti-religious. So your insinuation is baseless. Only right-religious bloc can be formed if Lieberman can be woed, or else new elections!

  2. makes sense to have people who believe in secular education for the country to lead Education.
Defense = someone who served in the Military
Transportation = Minister who has on his team people with degrees in city planning .

Even if the frum parties want Kovod, shouldn’t Israel have people as Ministers that know what they are doing ?

PS: They won’t be getting any portfolios if they join Blue and White.

  4. This is a wise and well-planned tactic. Better to sit on the sidelines for now.

Imagine if a charedi gets an important position now. Lieberman and Lapid would trumpet it from the rooftops and would probably gain a seat or two. Best thing no for charedim is to lay low until the storm passes and a new government is set up.
