Motzei Shabbos News Round-Up From Eretz Yisroel


Some 6,000 Palestinians rioted along the Gaza border on Friday throwing molotov cocktails, improvised explosive devices, and stones at Israeli security forces. One rioter who posed a clear and present danger to Israeli soldiers was shot and killed.

A minor earthquake rating 3.4 on the Richter scale struck Israel’s north over Shabbos. The epicenter was identified as being 6 miles north-east of Tiberias (Tevaria). No damage or injuries were reported.

Hikers in the Re’im Stream found a book that had an explosive device attached to it. A police sapper was called in and neutralized the explosive. Police are investigating whether or not this was a new explosive placed recently or whether it had been in the wadi for a while.

Hackers from abroad initiated a cyber-attack against the Israeli Football Association (IFA). The IFA stated that they have a backup of all of the information stored in their system and that they have turned to the police in order to find the culprit.

A 20-year-old man was seriously injured after he was stabbed on Chalutzei Ha’Ta’asiyah Street in Haifa.

Two other Haifa residents were stabbed during a violent altercation on Chori Street. A 40-year-old male was arrested and taken for questioning.

The Blue and White party made an unofficial offer to the leaders of the New Right party MKs Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked. According to reports in the Israeli media, the offer includes the pair receiving two portfolios of their choice, if their party joins a minority government of 55 MKs together with Blue and White, Yisrael Beytenu, Labor, and the Democratic Union. The New Right party did not respond to the reports.

Benny Gantz addressed tens of thousands of Israelis at a Tel Aviv rally Saturday night commemorating the 24th anniversary of the assassination of prime minister Yitzhak Rabin. “The state of Israel will never surrender to hatred… The children of Israel will no longer grow up in a state where some of the leaders sanctify hatred. I won’t let hatred win. You won’t let hatred win. Israel will defeat the haters. Israel will defeat the hatred… In the government that I will form, we will restore deterrence, by any means available to us. Hamas leaders will be held personally responsible, Hamas headquarters will be destroyed and the time of showing restraint will come to an end if there is not complete quiet in the South.”
