The apartment in which Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L lived before moving to Har Nof, located at 8 Elkana Street in Jerusalem, is up for sale for a cool NIS 4.5 million. The rav lived there with his family during the period he served on the Jerusalem Rabbinate Beis Din. This was before Rav Yosef became the Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv and Chief Rabbi of Israel.
It has been six years since the petira of the Gadol, and thousands visited the kever on Thursday night and Friday, the yahrzeit.
“The apartment in question, on Elkana Street, has three bedrooms, a balcony and yard” explained Shaul, whose parents bought it from the rav years ago. He explains that even back then, the price was double the cost of a comparable apartment in the area. The family was looking for an apartment in a chareidi area, and someone told them that Rav Ovadia’s apartment was for sale. Shaul explained to Walla News that his parents bought it then, adding, “it is a holy apartment and there are many stories and miracles”.
Above that apartment was the apartment of HaGaon HaRav Bentzion Aba Shaul ZT”L, one of the great Sephardic poskim.

I think this is pure greed but totally legal in a free-market society. If there is some fool willing to pay 4.5 million NIS for this apartment in the belief there is some magical segulah that conveys with the deed, than mazel tov to Shaul for his shrewd marketing. Whats next? 10 million NIS for Maran’s shtender??
