During coalition talks on Tuesday, the Democratic Union demanded the campaign promises made ahead of the election must be fulfilled, referring to the demands to permit increased Chilul Shabbos, including but not limited to accommodating egalitarian prayer at the Kosel, public bus service on Shabbos in non-religious areas, civil marriages for those seeking one, and the abolition of the Shabbos Supermarket Law, which empowers the Interior Ministry to order stores to shut down on Shabbos.
Democratic Union Chairman MK Nitzan Horowitz stressed these issues are paramount to his party joining a coalition, adding, “today, there is an opportunity to build such a coalition…”
