PA (Palestinian Authority) resident Ziad Ahavid, who is inside Green Line Israel illegally, is the chief suspect in the murder of an Ashkelon infant that Ziad was responsible to watch. On Sunday morning, police announced in court that Ziad is the suspect in the case.
During the hearing in the Ashkelon Magistrate’s Court, the police representative explained that the suspicions against Ziad have been upgraded from manslaughter to murder.
The mother of the child was released by police last week after establishing her alibi. It is added the baby was left with the suspect by her mom as police tracked down Ziad, who they first suspected of shaking the child. The mom, a 22-year-old, was driving to Be’er Sheva at the time of the incident and the biological father of the infant, a Bedouin, is a resident of the area Bedouin community and is not a suspect.
Police have established the Palestinian was with the infant when she was reportedly ‘injured’, and fled Ashkelon and was trying to get back to the PA when apprehended on Route 35, near Plugot Junction, heading to the PA area of Hebron where he resides.
