Following Elad City Hall Director-General Ze’ev Kashash submitting his resignation to Mayor Yisrael Porush, it appears that Porush will be appointing Shai Natan of the Bayit Yehudi party to replace him.
The expected appointment of Natan has elicited the ire of Degel Hatorah officials, with party Chairman MK Moshe Gafne questioning how he can make the appointment since it was Natan who petitioned against Yitzchak Pindrus’ bid to become mayor of the city, a court petition that compelled Pindrus to pull out of the mayoral race.
Kikar Shabbos News spoke with a senior Degel Hatorah official anonymously, as he asks, “Is this the prize being awarded to Shai Natan by Elad City Hall for succeeding in preventing the Degel Hatorah and Shas candidate from competing in the race?”
In addition, Degel officials point out the law requires a hiatus period of 18 months from serving as a councilman until one may be appointed as the city’s director-general, stating the appointment is problematic from a legal standpoint too.
It appears that if Porush makes the appointment, as appears will be the case, Degel will turn to the High Court of Justice to have it disqualified.
