The Haifa District Court handed down a 16-year prison term on Amjad Jabarin, 37, a resident of the Israeli Arab municipality of Um el-Fahm, for assisting in the 2017 terrorist attack on Har Habayis that claimed the lives of two Israeli policemen; Kamil Shanan, from the village of Hurfeish and Hayil Sethawi, from the village of Magar.
During Jabarin’s trial, it was established that he assisted the terrorists and participated in the squad’s training for the attack as well as assisting in the detailed planning.
The attack occurred in July 2017, resulting in the murders of the two officers who were assigned to Har Habayis. The attack took place on a Friday morning as they arrived at the holy site at 7:00AM and headed towards one of the gates armed with a pistol and a second weapon.
Police saw them, realizing they were terrorists, opening fire, leading to a pursuit. The terrorists tried to flee but were neutralized by law enforcement, but not before they succeeded in fatally shooting the two policemen.
