A Kikar report on Wednesday profiled the rabbanim who will continue the legacy of Hagaon HaRav Nissim Karelitz ZATZAL.
The rabbanim filling the positions of R’ Karelitz in the past few years were appointed by the gadol himself. R’ Karelitz’s son-in-law, R’ Aharon Ostran serves as the rav of the Yad Aharon shul. It was announced at the levaya that R’ Karelitz instructed that his son-in-law Rav Lubin should be appointed as the rav of the neighborhood of Ramat Aharon. R’ Karelitz’ son, R’ Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz, will serve as the rav of the Heligman shul.
Hagoan Rav Nissim Karlitz, zt’l, who was considered one of the posekei hador after the deaths of the gaonim Rav Elyashiv, z’tl and Rav Wosner, zt’l, retired from the Bnei Brak Beis Din when he was 86, and from then on the Beis Din proceedings were conducted under his leadership but he himself didn’t participate in the proceedings.
The three rabbanim that replaced Rav Karelitz at the Beis Din were his students: Rav Yehudah Silman, Rav Shevach Tzvi Rosenblatt, and his son-in-law, Rav Shariel Rosenberg.
Rav Shariel Rosenberg, 68, who was married to R’ Karelitz’s late daughter Tziporah, serves on the Bnei Brak Beis Din, is the rav of the Ramat Dovid neighborhood in Bnei Brak and is the Av Beis Din of a Beis Din in Yerushalayim. Rav Rosenberg’s son, Rav Nochum Meir, also serves as a dayan in the Bnei Brak Beis Din.
Rav Yehudah Silman, 75, serves as the Av Beis Din of the Bnei Brak Beis Din as well as the rav of the Kehal Chassidim shul in the Ramat Elchanan neighborhood of Bnei Rak, where he’s served as the rav for over 30 years together with the Litvak rav, Rav Yitzchak Zilberstein. Rav Silman’s home is open to the public every morning and evening to answer halachic shailos.
Rav Silman authored the series of sefarim Darchei Choshen and the sefer Kuntrus Hashtarot.
At the instructions of Rav Shteinman, z’tl, R’ Silman was active in the issue of the housing crisis in the Chareidi sector and initiated the building of thousands of new apartments at cheaper prices in the neighborhoods of Elad, Achsamach and Beit Shemesh.
R’ Silman’s wife, Rebbetzin Rivka, developed a unique method to treat burns which minimizes scarring and has treated countless people with burns – mostly children – over the years.
Rav Tzvi Shevach Rosenblatt, 66, serves as the Litvak rav of Bnei Brak for the Bnei Brak municipality, as well as a dayan in the Bnei Brak Beit Din. He also serves as the head of the Batei Horaah in Bnei Brak, Elad and Modiin Illit, the rav of kehillos in Bnei Brak and Modiin Illit and a member of Badatz Shearis Yisrael.
R’av Rosenblatt serves with Rav Landau as head of the Harav Landau hechsher and serves as the head of the kashrus and rabbanut systems in Bnei Brak.
