MK (Bayit Yehudi) Moti Yogev, a colonel in the IDF reserves, warns that the Blue & White party is working to split the union between Bayit Yehudi and Ichud Leumi, which is headed by Minister of Transportation Betzalel Smotrich. Blue & White is hoping that after party chairman MK Benny Gantz receives the presidential mandate to form a coalition government, Bayit Yehudi will agree to meet without including Smotrich and his faction.
Bayit Yehudi chairman, Minister of Education Rabbi Rafi Peretz has already announced his party will not meet with Blue & White negotiators if Smotrich is not invited to participate.
Smotrich is viewed as persona non-grata by the liberal secularists in Bayit Yehudi following his strong statements backing a state which he hopes will one day be led in line with Halacha and not secular law.
Yogev on Wednesday spoke out harshly against Blue & White, warning the party will destroy the Zionist enterprise. Yogev spoke with Mendy Rizel of Radio Darom, explaining his fears regarding Blue & White attempting to form a coalition government.
He added, “It’s no secret that we are all friends. I too am a friend from our long service in the IDF, with Gantz, Boogie (Moshe) Ya’alon and Gabi Ashkenazi. Not just a friend, but I also admire them. That said, regarding their political position, their position regarding religion and state, it is not relevant. We are all part of one bloc, certainly with Ichud Leumi. We ran together, worked together. The pursuit is for more unity and not more separation…”
