CityPass, the operator of the Jerusalem light rail, announces it is prepared for the anticipated significant increase in travelers who will be in the capital for Yom Kippur and during the weeklong Sukkos Yomtov. There will be increased service to accommodate the large volume of travelers who rely on the light rail to make their way to the Kosel and other areas of the capital.
On Monday, October 7, 2019, as erev Yom Kippur nears, the frequency of trains will increase beginning at 8:00PM, and in addition, light rail service will continue until 2:00AM. On erev Yom Kippur, Tuesday, October 8th, the last train will operate at 2:00PM. Service will resume on motzei Yom Kippur at 9:00PM.
During Chol Hamoed Sukkos, train service will increase as well, with CityPass recommending travelers purchase tickets in advance at the central bus station stop as there will be train personnel on hand to assist those unfamiliar with the system in purchasing ride tickets.
As in past years, CityPass will erect sukkas at some stations including the central bus station stop. Trains will run at increased frequency during all of Chol Hamoed from 9:00AM to 8:00PM, at a rate of every six minutes.
