State to Pay for Negligent Use of ‘Skunk’ Spray at Jerusalem Protesters

The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court validated an agreement reached by the parties involved; Israel Police and the owners of ‘Pizza Beitit’, after they filed a lawsuit against the police for using the ‘skunk’ spray; a foul-smelling substance used against unruly protesters.

The lawsuit pertains to the period of last Chol Hamoed Pesach, during a protest held on Bar Ilan Street. During the protest, the ‘skunk spray’ was used by police and it accidentally struck the pizza shop, with the substance penetrating inside the store. As a result, the owners filed the lawsuit, represented by attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir and the BeTzedek organization.

The lawsuit alleges police were negligent in the use of the ‘skunk’ spray which penetrated the store and the entranceway and entrance sign.

The lawsuit included videos from the store’s surveillance cameras which show the damage. Agreement was reached by which the state will reimburse the store owner in the amount of NIS 14,000.
