The name of Rechov Hakablan in Har Nof, Jerusalem, will be changed to Rechov R’ Ovadia Yosef in November, according to a report on Kikar Hashabbat on Tuesday.
The decision was made on Tuesday morning at a meeting of the Municipal Names Committee in Jerusalem.
The residents of the street can officially oppose the name change until October 22nd and after that date, the name will be changed. The committee’s decision to change the street’s name will be presented to the city council for approval.
For dozens of years, Rechov Hakablan was one of the most famous streets in Israel due to R’ Ovadia’s residence on the street.
The Shas party tried to change the name of the street in 2013, following R’ Ovadia’s death, according to the Kikar Shabbat report. However, they were unsuccessful due to the administrative rules that at least two years must pass from a person’s death before a street can be named after him.

Better Rav Yosef Street then Bibi Blvd…..I hope the locals don’t object.
I never understood how that street got its name in the first place. It always seemed to me like calling it “Your street name here”, as if the developer promised the contractor to name a street after him, but forget to ask his actual name, so he penciled it into the plan as “the contractor”, to be changed later, but he never got around to actually changing it.
