Elderly Man Dies Of Smoke Inhalation Following Kiryat Bialik Fire [VIDEO]


A 70-year-old man who was seriously injured by smoke inhalation during a fire on Sunday night has died of his injuries in the hospital. The fire department responded shortly after 9:30PM to a second story apartment in a building on HaAlonim Street in Kiryat Bialik. The elderly man was rescued from the apartment by firemen, and was transported to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, where he was listed in critical condition during the night. Despite heroic resuscitation efforts, the elderly victim was niftar on Monday.

MDA paramedic Eren Goldstein explained that the smoke emanating from the building was quite thick, making conditions very difficult. The victim was found unconscious in a staircase, as he clearly tried to escape the fire. He was taken downstairs to the awaiting ambulance where he was treated and transported while resuscitation efforts were taking place.
