During this past Shabbos, vandals broke into a chareidi daycare center in the old area of the city, vandalizing the entire facility and causing significant damage. One resident commented “for someone to do this to a daycare center can only be due to hate”.
The center serves chareidi families, located at Herzl Street and the corner of Yitzchak Rabin Street, in the Bezeq neighborhood of Old Beit Shemesh.
Of late, there has been controversy between the secular and chareidi area residents, as the secularists fear a chareidi takeover of their community. The preliminary findings point to a hate crime by someone(s) strongly opposed to the arrival of chareidim in their community.
Councilman (Degel Hatorah) Shlomo Brilliant visited the daycare center on motzei Shabbos. “I visited the Bezeq complex in the Old City this evening and I was shocked and astonished to see a private daycare center was destroyed during the holy Shabbos, a place that should be above all controversy”.
As seen in the accompanying photos, Mayor Dr. Aliza Bloch also visited the damaged daycare center.
