Who’s Behind The Incitement Against Chareidim On Facebook?

In recent weeks, Facebook pages which include incitement against the Chareidi community have appeared, with names such as “Freedom to Israel” and “We’ve Had It Up to Here” which aren’t obviously identifiable as belonging to a particular political party, according to a report by B’chadrei Chareidim. The posts focus on leftist political issues, such as LGBTQ rights, religious coercion and the high cost of living.

One example of a post inciting against Chareidim shows a picture of IDF soldiers with a caption saying, “There’s a budget for avreichim but no budget for our soldiers.”

Another example shows a cartoon of a secular man on voting day opting to relax on the beach rather than heading to the voting booth. Ten years later, the same man is arrested by a Chareidi policeman for using his phone on Shabbos. The cartoon echoes the calls of politicians such as Blue and White leader Yair Lapid and Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman, who constantly warn the public that if the Chareidim enter the government, Israel will turn into a “halachic state.”

BeChadrei Chadarim did some investigative work and discovered that an anonymous organization called “The Israel Alliance,” which has spent over NIS 200,000 on Facebook advertising, funded the Facebook pages in question. They delved a bit deeper to see who funds “The Israel Alliance” and discovered that it is funded by the Tides Foundation. The Tides Foundation, supported by billionaire George Soros, champions left-wing causes and has transferred hundreds of thousands of dollars to BDS organizations.

The report also revealed who is behind the anonymous Israel Alliance. The organization was registered by Attorney Ushi Elmaliach, who was the CEO of Ehud Barak’s Independence party (now part of the Democratic Union).
