700 lawyers will have the task of overseeing the election for 22nd Knesset, making certain there is no foul play, as was alleged by many following the election for 21st Knesset in April 2019. The move has been approved by the Chairman of the Central Election Committee (CEC), Judge Chanan Meltzer, earlier in the week. The move was approved after Meltzer rejected a Likud party request to place hidden surveillance cameras in polling stations around the country, as the party did secretly during the last election.
The compromise reached with Justice Meltzer was that together with the CEC Director-General, Orli Adas, the committee in the coming days will release an announcement calling for lawyers to step forward and take part in the process of ensuring a proper election, and to prevent any type of foul play.
Speaking on Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) earlier in the week, Adas announced 700 attorneys from the Israel Bar Association will be enlisted to assist the 3000 poll watchers who will move around the polling stations nationwide on Election Day.
