The fast actions of police prevented sabotage to a gas line for a residential structure in Ashdod. The suspect was taken into custody and he was arraigned, and his detention extended.
On Friday, police received numerous calls in Ashdod regarding sabotage to the gas line of a residential building in the city. The responded immediately, leading to the arrest of a 49-year-old suspect who was detained for questioning. After questioning, the suspect was placed under arrest and arraigned.
The incident occurred on Gaponov Street in Ashdod, apparently prompted by the smell of gas in the area of the building. There were also calls on Even Ezra Street, and the fire department responded a number of hours earlier. It was determined that the integrity of the gas line in this case was not compromised. In the second case, the gas line was actually cut, and police emphasize, this could have had catastrophic results.
While police were working to apprehend the suspect, they received reports of “a gas smell” at a third location, on Shalom Shabazi Street. At this location too the gas line was not compromised.
