In three important sephardi yeshivos, Shiur Aleph began on Sunday, 2 Elul, without a rebbe due to the petira of HaGaon HaRav Shimon Weizman ZT”L, who was niftar on Shabbos at the age of 86.
HaRav Weizman was Rosh Yeshivat Eshel, in Strasbourg, France. He made aliya in the past decade and settled in Bnei Brak. His levaya was held on motzei Shabbos and he was laid to rest in the Ponevezh Yeshiva Cemetery.
The sons of the niftar are sitting shiva:
HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Tzvi Weizman (one of the Roshei Yeshiva in Yesodos HaTorah in Tel Aviv and a maggid shiur for Shiur Aleph),
HaGaon Rav Avraham Yeshayahu Weizman (a Rosh Yeshiva in Yeshivas Yesodos in Moshav Yesodos and a rebbe in Shiur Aleph),
HaGaon HaRav Meir Weizman (a Rosh Yeshiva in Yeshivas Birchas Ephraim in Bnei Brak and a rebbe for Shiur Aleph).
HaGaon HaRav Shimon Weizman ZT”L was born to Rav David Z”L. He was marbitz Torah for over 50 years, with mesirus nefesh, producing many many talmidim.
