Minister of Jerusalem Affairs (Likud) Ze’ev Elkin accompanied Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on his recent state visit to Ukraine.
Following his return, he revealed to the media that some understandings were reached regarding the tziyun of Rav Nachman of Breslov.
He told Kikar Shabbos News “we maintain good relations with Ukraine. The incoming and outcoming presidents are Jewish. The new president has total control in Ukraine, and he is sympathetic to Israel and the Jewish people in general. He is a Jew who does not hide his Yiddishkeit and does not hide the fact that most of his aides are Jews. Most of them are outright supporters of Israel.
According to Elkin, it appears that in the near future, there may be a revolution pertaining to the tens of thousands of visitors to Uman annually. “The new president feels there is a great tourism potential in Uman, but the conditions which exist are totally unacceptable. There are tensions between visitors and local residents”.
Elkin reveals there will be a joint team established between Ukraine and Israel, which will deal with the development of the site in depth and take care of the permits regarding the Ukrainian side and towards assisting Israel. One of the possibilities being weighed is direct flights from Tel Aviv to Uman as there is a small military airport in Uman and it may be possible to allocate a runway for civilian flights in Tishrei.
Elkin promises that in the future, development in Uman will include roads, lighting, proper transportation, and inexpensive hotels. He promises the corruption in Uman will come to an end. “Heads of Ukrainian security services sent a message that it will not tolerate corruption. This should bring an end to the issue of problematic demands for illegal payments” Elkin added.

Azoy…..its almost that time of year again….It seems just yesterday we were having the annual debate about the meshugaas of tens of thousands of yidden leaving their families for Rosh Hashanah to fly off to what is still one of the most anti-semitic countries in the world (nothwithstanding a Jewish president). Each year there are stories of fraudulent flights or non-flights, yidden acting like a bunch of drunken fraternity bros on Spring Break at the airports or on flights en-route, attacks in uman etc. etc. Yes, for some this is a real spiritual experience but for others, at least according to the news coverage, it seems more like party time and a chance to get away in the name of Na Na Nachman.
