Good news for residents of Jerusalem and surrounding areas. There is a new maternity ward, an advanced unit that is set to open next week in Jerusalem’s Bikur Cholim Hospital.
Shaare Zedek Hospital will open the new ward next week, providing a new maternity ward in the former Bikur Cholim Hospital, in the center of Jerusalem. The new department will be equipped with many resources, the result of a major investment, meeting today’s highest standards without compromising maternity comfort and maintaining a special atmosphere for the new mothers and babies. There is also advanced equipment, and of course, a medical and professional staff from Shaare Zedek, among the best and most experienced in the field in the country.
In addition, a new advanced nursey will provide the best possible care for the newborns. Moms will receive a third night free of charge or alternatively, a night in the maternity hotel. The women are also entitled to take part in the pre-delivery course, without charge.
Bikur Cholim exists for over 100 years. Six years ago, Shaare Zedek accepted responsibility for running the hospital, including its operational standard. This includes the midwives, the physicians, anesthesiologists, and the entire Shaare Zedek team that is known for its professionalism when it comes to delivery and birth.
Over 6000 women annually give birth in Bikur Cholim and now, with the new modernized unit, the conditions are similar to that of a hotel, officials report, without compromising the medical care for mother and child.

I hope that they succeed. Bikur Cholim hospital has ‘enjoyed’ a very poor reputation as a hospital, between the lousy care, the lousy facilities and the lack of decent doctors have send most people to seek care at Shaarey Tzedek or Haddassah.
