R’ Avraham (Boomi) Steinmetz Z”L, one of the more well-known men of chessed in Antwerp, Belgium, was niftar on erev Shabbos after battling a difficult illness. He was 65.
The niftar managed to come to Eretz Yisrael about two weeks ago after his medical situation continued to deteriorate and he expressed his wish to be buried in Israel. The name Refael was added to him as a segulah for healing.
Over the year, R’ Steinitz ran a famous bakery which was established by his father. He was known for his chessed, and he was known for his tzedaka, including the donation of an ambulance to the Refuah V’Chaim organization. His home in Belgium was a welcoming venue for guests.
The niftar is survived by his three children and grandchildren, marbitzei Torah. The levaya took place on Friday and he was laid to rest in the Vishnitz Cemetery in Bnei Brak.
