A policeman saw a private vehicle on Route 3403 near Even Shmuel that appeared to be overcrowded. When the driver stopped, the policeman found he was carrying four adults and five children in a vehicle permitted to carry a maximum of five passengers. The youngest child in the vehicle was only 8-months-old.
While the driver, an area resident, made an effort to explain his actions, he was given a summons for carrying too many people in the vehicle.
Police add in the past week, bein hazmanim, 800 summonses were issued for using a cellphone while operating a vehicle without a handsfree device. Drivers were given a NIS 1,000 summons and 8 points on one’s license. All total, 5,500 summonses were issued; 49 drivers had their license revoked for thirty days; 33 vehicles were taken off the road for serious safety deficiencies among the traffic offenses committed.
Police add that 1,200 of the summonses were for speeding and an additional 500 for truck drivers with safety violations and related issues. 450 summonses were issued via still cameras nationwide. 450 summonses were issued to the operator of two-wheeled cyclists as part of the activity against injuring and abusing the public as well as 14 drivers who were cited with DWI.
