Deputy Minister of Education Meir Porush took part in a bein hazmanim symposium for bnei yeshivos addressing the upcoming election, hosted in Tiveria. In his remarks, Porush elaborated on the uniqueness of the Yahadut Hatorah list, because unlike other parties, it has principles, as the other parties “wave one candidate or another and no one knows what will occur the next day” as he put it.
“Over the years, it has been proven that the only list that has maintained an ideological backbone, on every religious and spiritual issue, both on the issue of Eretz Yisrael and the subject of the Reform, is Yahadut Hatorah” he said.
He then took a stab at Ayelet Shaked, who chairs the URWP, stating, “If a party is headed by people who are not faithful to the spirit of Torah, despite their welcome talents and appreciation, as well as respect for their important work; one cannot tell what they will do tomorrow as it is not ‘real-right’ but ‘fake-right'”.
He then mentioned names of some who were viewed as right-wing, but when it came down to it, they acted out of their own personal political considerations.
“Take Ariel Sharon for an example, who was viewed as a man of a Greater Eretz Yisrael, but at the moment of truth, when elected prime minister for a second time, he announced his plan to expel the Jews cloaked in what he called the ‘Disengagement Plan’, which meant deporting Jews in complete contradiction to the right-wing which he represented with enthusiasm throughout his political career, and he was elected based on this. Contrary to what he said only a year earlier, according to which ‘the future of Netzarim is the same as that of Tel Aviv'”.
“Take [former IDF Chief of Staff and Cabinet Minister] Raful [Eitan], who was considered a definite right-winger, and at the moment of truth changed his mind and position according to his political needs. So are examples of other recent right-wingers who broke the promises for personal interests and caused damage in the last election”.
