According to a media report, the person close to former justice minister, Ayelet Shaked, who approached Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and offered him immunity in exchange for securing Shaked a slot in Likud is Elyashiv Amitzur.
This news of the offer was released earlier in the week, that Shaked was seeking a secure slot in Likud and in return, after appointed justice minister again, would grant immunity to the prime minister, who is facing a number of investigations. The report was met with outright denial, but now, the name of the shaliach to the prime minister is released. Amitzur served as Shaked’s driver when she was a minister, as well as a close advisor.
Chaim Levinson of Haaretz earlier in the week released the reported event, in which an emissary of Shaked approached PM Netanyahu to make the deal. Shaked denied any such deal, adding if anyone approached the prime minister on her behalf, she is not aware of it.
Yediot Achronot correspondent Amichai Atali revealed on Wednesday that the message delivered by Amitzur four months ago, after the failed 21st Knesset elections, was as reported and at that time, and Amitzur began working to persuade Shaked’s supporters to back Likud. Shaked denies any knowledge of Amitzur’s actions in this area.
Amitzur, who began as Shaked’s driver, worked his way up into her office, becoming a close advisor. Shaked continues denying any involvement in making such an offer to Mr. Netanyahu, claiming she never discussed any criminal cases with the attorney general, especially those pertaining to the prime minister, concluding, “I rely on the public to be smarter than this”.
