Rotem Langer Z”L, a paratrooper wounded critically in Operation Protective Shield 17 years ago in Yehuda and Shomron, was niftar at the age of 38. He is survived by his wife and two children. The levaya took place on Tuesday at 11:00AM in the Yahud cemetery.
Langer was wounded during Pesach 2002 in Shechem, when a Palestinian sniper fired at him in the Casbah area of Shechem while he was bringing food to a friend in the building serving as their base. One of the bullets fired struck him in his neck, tearing an artery bringing blood to his brain. He remained unconscious for 2.5 months, and his parents were certain he would not survive the serious injury.
During his hospitalization, Langer underwent six surgeries on his head, and he did not utter a word for four years as his brain’s left hemisphere had been damaged. Langer however was a fighter and worked to rehabilitate his speech.
Eight years ago, Langer met a woman who became his wife, Shelly, and they were married six months later. During the years, the two worked towards his rehabilitation and he was taking part in sports and snowboarding.

I lived in yerushalayim during 2001-2002. These were the darkest of times. Rotem gave his future to try to give us all our lives to live. I and my family are forever endebted to him for these years of peace that resulted from his sacrafice.
Bd’e. May his family never know of any more tzaar.
I too lived in yerushalayim during the years of 2001-2003
I remember lying in bed hearing ambulances rushing to East Jerusalem to treat riot victims. On another day, I heard ambulances rushing in the other direction, this time to treat victims of a suicide bombing.
On yet another dark day, I saw the bodies lined up after a horrific bus bombing right by Kikar HaDavidka. I heard another explosion at approx 4 PM while learning in The Mir. B’h in that incident, noone was harmed. I saw and heard the aftermath of many such horrible attacks. Those were very dark years indeed.
