The cabinet has decided to extend the tenure of Israel Police Acting Commissioner Moti Cohen, who assumed the post when Commissioner Roni Alshich stepped down in December 2018.
A phone poll of the cabinet ministers was conducted, and the extension of his post was approved. Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan wants to appoint retired Assistant Commissioner Moshe Edri, but the law does not permit the government to make such an appointment ahead of elections, as it is a transition government.
With Cohen’s term coming to an end, the cabinet extended it for four months, permitting Cohen to serve one year in the post.
